In the last two months I have done two things that I'd never done before:
1- I traveled alone. When Kedar and I went to California, he was already traveling for business and I met him there, so, on the way there I was alone.
2- I traveled with the kids but without Kedar. While Kedar was in El Salvador with his mom, I took the kids to Texas to visit family.
These experiences were so different from each other I couldn't help doing a little comparison. Here it is:
Traveling Alone- Easy, Relaxing
Traveling with Kids- Hard, Kinda Stressful
Going through Security Alone- Taking off shoes for security took 5 seconds, the people behind me didn't even notice.
Going through Security with Kids- Taking off shoes for security induced tears and took 5 minutes, the people behind me were getting annoyed.
Seating Arrangements on the Plane by Myself- I sat by a guy who must have been terrified of flying. That is the only reason I can think of for the way he was acting- talking to himself, constantly fidgeting, twitching and itching. I spent the whole flight squished into the half of my seat furthest from him.
Seating Arrangements on the Plane with the Kiddos- I sat by some of the people that I love most.
Eating on Plane Solo- My tomato juice and cookies stayed on my tiny tray without a problem.
Eating on the Plane with Kids- Sticky orange juice ended up on the seat and all over Aubrey's clothes. Pretzels and peanuts littered the floor that was within a 10 foot radius of us.
Exiting the Plane Unaccompanied- I left the plane wearing the same thing I was wearing when I got on the plane.
Exiting the Plane Accompanied by my Sprouts- Aubrey got on the plane in a really cute outfit, she left the plane in just her shirt and diaper. (Remember the orange juice spill?)
The Best Part about Traveling Alone- I had lots of time to read a book.
The Best Part about Traveling with Kids- The excitement they had for doing something out of the ordinary.
The Worst part about Traveling Alone- It was kind of lonely.
The Worst part about Traveling with Kids- Circling the airport for forever, waiting for our turn to land while one of the kids had to go to the bathroom really badly.

Flying alone with kids is quite an adventure, but you're totally right about their enthusiasm making it fun!
I can't believe you traveled alone with your kids. You are wonder woman!! I would NEVER do that!! Someone told me once that if you go out of town with your kids it's a trip. If you leave them at home it's a vacation. Sounds pretty accurate to me!
