"Ruggamuffin"- What's that?-

When I was first starting up this little blog I thought and pondered and pontificated and then thought some more about what to call my tiny corner of the Internet.  I wanted to use our unusual last name in the title of the blog, but I wasn't sure how.  I tried to think of words that might work;

Rugg-rat (rugrat)- a child (we sometimes call our children this)
Rugged- strong and tough (this is my husband's favorite)
Rugg-tag (rag-tag)- shabby or disheveled (sometimes I am, but hopefully not enough to warrant the title of a blog)
Rugg-by (rugby)- a form of football (I don't know enough about rugby to dedicate a blog to it)
Rugg-elach (rugelach)- a pastry made with a cream cheese dough and different fillings (I've never even tried it)
Ruggiero Leoncavallo- an Italian operatic composer (not a huge fan of opera)
Rugg-ulose (rugulose) - having many small wrinkles (I have a few, but I hope I wouldn't be described as "rugulose")

None of these seemed quite right.

One day, I was reading on The Nester's blog and came across her Ragamuffin Garland.  As I read through this post the way that she described her garland resonated with me.  The Nester uses irregular scraps of fabric, trimmings and ribbon to build her decor.  It is imperfect and random but the end result is harmonious and beautiful.  This is my hope for Ruggamuffin.  This blog is a mish mash of ideas and topics, I write about anything from home and family to running or biking and even an occasional "how to," but I hope that the end result of all of my randomness is harmonious and is a genuine reflection of me and my family.

Thanks for stopping by.
