She's My Sister

This is Marci, my little sister.  I remember when we were little we would sing a song together; a song about two sisters.  I would always sing the "big sister" part.  These were the words to my part:

She's about this high
She's smaller than I
Sometimes I help her tie her shoes.
She's my sister.
And she plays with me
And I hope that she
Is glad that I'm her sister too.

Even though chronologically I am older than Marci there are a lot of ways where I feel like Marci fills the role of the "big sister."

"Let me 'splain.  No there is too much.  Let me sum up."  (What movie?)

Here are some ways that Marci makes a great "big sister":

-The older sister is supposed to set a good example for the younger sister but, lucky for me, Marci always sets an example that I can follow.

-The older sister is supposed to be more knowledgeable than the younger sister. Three extra years of life experience should count for something, right?  I guess that's not always the case because there are many areas that Marci is more knowledgeable than I am. I call her all of the time and the first thing out of my mouth is "I have a question for you..."  then I proceed to ask her a question about any number of topics from exercise and nutrition to mothering or paint colors.

-The older sister is supposed to be the source of comfort for the younger sister. I should be the one who says "it'll be okay" when she's having a bad day.  But more often than not, it's Marci who is comforting me when I am having a hard time.

I admire my sister for her kindness, the strength of her faith and her ability to find fun in almost any situation.  I feel lucky to have a sister who was born after I was but can still act as the "big sister" in so many ways.

Well I guess if you are going to do a post about me I better make a comment. Kari, that was so sweet of you (I'll give you the $5 later j/k) Thanks, that totally made my day. Seriously. I've never been the feature post on a blog before! I sure love you!

P.S. Love the picture.
P.S.S The movie is, of course, Princess Bride!
