Mixing Church and State

I love to hear my kids sing the Primary songs that they learn in church each Sunday.  There are beautiful messages within the simple words and melodies.  But sometimes the words can be tricky for their little mouths to pronounce or for their busy brains to remember.

Recently they learned the song "I'm trying to be like Jesus."

I'm trying to be like Jesus.
I'm following in His ways.
I'm trying to be like Jesus,
In all that I do and say.

This morning Ethan was stomping around the house doing his jobs and singing this song.  He was singing with gusto, the rhythm of the song matching the marching rhythm of his steps.  I smiled as I listened to him.  When I gave my full attention to the words my son was singing this is what I heard:

I'm trying to be like Jesus!
I'll follow the USA!

Maybe I'd better teach him the right words before the kids sing in front of the entire congregation for the Primary program.

Fabulous! I say let him keep his own rendition! Any old shmuck can sing what's written. It takes CREATIVITY to make up something new!
