I Love Moments Like These

I was making dinner the other night. Suddenly, I realized it was quiet...too quiet. With three kids, I have learned that quiet moments are sometimes dangerous moments. When these rare, quiet moments find me, initially I think , "Wow, it's nice that it is so quiet." The second thought that inevitable comes is, "Where are the kids?" And then, "What are they doing?"

These were the thoughts that were going through my mind as I started looking for the kids. First, I went upstairs; one of their favorite "destruction sites." I found Conner lying on his bed, reading his Harry Potter book.

"Hey Conner, do you know where Ethan and Aubrey are?"

Barely looking up from his book (which made me smile), he said, "Nope."

I continued my search, down the stairs and into the living room. I found them there, sitting on the couch, curled up together. Ethan was reading Go, Dog! Go! to Aubrey.

All three of the kids were happy and quiet, doing something that I love seeing them do. I loved seeing Ethan taking care of his little sister. I loved that he is getting confident enough in his reading that he could read to her. I loved that Conner was enjoying his book so much that he didn't want to leave that world, even for a second. And of course, I loved that, just for a little while, they weren't fighting.
